The Timber Engineering Unit, University of Innsbruck
The Timber Engineering Unit, which was jointly established by proHolz Tirol and the province of Tyrol in 2002 as a foundation, has become an important part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Innsbruck. While the University assumed full responsibility for the Timber Engineering Unit in 2007, it continues to receive content-related and financial support from the Tyrolean forestry and timber industry for project- and personnelrelated issues through proHolz Tirol.
The core competencies of the Timber Construction work area cover education, basic research, applied research, cooperation, product development and project advisory services.
In addition to engaging in basic and applied research, the Timber Engineering Unit aims to provide future architects and civil engineers with a comprehensive education in timber construction. Hence the unit makes an important contribution to competence development. The Timber Engineering Unit offers valuable impulses for the Tyrolean forestry and timber industry, as well as the Tyrolean timber construction scene and beyond.
